Do Yoga Babes Do Marijuana?
I’m in a Blogging course given at LVSonline.com where our homework this week is to do research on our Blog’s niche. I found some interesting facts.
One of the searches I did was for “Yoga Forums” and found 583,000 listings. I checked out the top link in
the list actually called, “Yoga Forums,” and what amused me was that in that forum the top number of posts were discussions about “Marijuana and yoga” with 5,525 posts. I took a quick look and found some interesting posts. I think they were mostly men.
The next largest group was for “Yoga for Erectile Dysfunction.” LOL! Who knew? This was the second highest with 2,122 posts. I took another quick look at the responses there and had to get out quick – lots of people discussing things I didn’t really want to know and not appropriate for Yoga Babes anyway.
Among other searches I found for yoga trends For 2008 the following in the order of number of searches were from:
1. India
2. Canada
3. Singapore
4. United States
5. Australia
6. Switzerland
7. Chile
8. Netherlands
9 Sweden
10. UK
I was surprised to find that in the US for the year 2008 the highest number for those interested in yoga was from the state of Vermont with New York 2nd, Massachusetts 3rd, Colorado 4th, Hawaii 5th and California coming in at 6th.
But “Yoga clothing” trends listed just 4 countries #1 – The United States, 2 – Canada, 3 – Australia, and 4 – United Kingdom. Interesting that they are all English speaking countries, yet they are not the highest seekers of yoga information.
For the people searching for yoga clothing the 10 cities listed were:
1. Denver, CO, USA
2. Vancouver, Canada
3. San Diego, CA, USA
4. San Francisco, CA, USA
5. Pleasanton, CA, USA
6. Boston, MA, USA
7. New York, NY, USA
8. Portland, OR, USA
9. Austin, TX, USA
10. Seattle, WA, USA
Back to my headline question – Do Yoga Babes do Marijuana? Do any of you have thoughts or comments on this?

You have found some interesting information. Humm, I do wonder if Yoga people use mind altering drugs.

Well, I never thought of either marijuana or erectile dysfunction when I thought of yoga. Who knew?

Hmmm… Your Yaga-Babe blog research is very thorough, and as a fellow class mate in Bean’s blogging course, I’m looking closely at this past week’s results of your work. Well-done — and it IS time consuming, isn’t it?
I know little of Yoga other than what some friends who practice it have said. I’m learning from you actually… but I think I don’t need either the marijuana or the dysfunction information. (I chuckled at how quickly you left the discussion.) I do see why there is such interest, though, among men.

When I was at WordCamp in Portland this Fall, Lorelle was giving a presentation on Woopra a new analytics package. She was talking about analyzing your traffic and how your most “popular” posts may actually be about something that is only marginally related to your blog topic. I was looking for a post on her blog about that but couldn’t find it right away. I emailed her about this post in hopes that she can find the time to share her expertise but in a nutshell I would it summarize it as thus “sex sells but what is it selling for you?”

It is a good read and poses some interesting questions

I can see marijuana being beneficial to yoga. Marijuana can help you to go into a trance state and increase focus.
Lots of people think of marijuana as a bad thing but it hasn’t harmed anybody. Most people don’t have the first clue as to how beneficial marijuana has been to humanity.
Now the plant has been demonized for so many years that the general public is basically brainwashed from propaganda.

I am a (male), recently started doing Yoga and a longtime marijuana smoker.
I regularly get massages after smoking marijuana – it makes me more relaxed (physically and mentally), it makes me much more receptive to my body (I can actually feel the points of tension as the therapist massages them, something I don’t feel normally). And as mentionned, pot can get you in a trance state quite easily.
I also think Marijuana can be beneficial to Yoga for all these reasons, as well as for the focus. Don’t know if it’s against the Yoga philosophy though; Guess it depends if you consider the herb as harmful or not.
Will try Yoga under influence and report back later!

Yoga is a way of life, a conscious act, not a set or series of learning principles. The dexterity, grace, and poise you cultivate, as a matter of course, is the natural outcome of regular practice. You require no major effort. In fact trying hard will turn your practices into a humdrum, painful, even injurious routine and will eventually slow down your progress. Subsequently, and interestingly, the therapeutic effect of Yoga is the direct result of involving the mind totally in inspiring (breathing) the body to awaken. Yoga is probably the only form of physical activity that massages each and every one of the body’s glands and organs. This includes the prostate, a gland that seldom, if ever, gets externally stimulated in one’s whole life.
